The Vanilla DeskMadagascar vanilla sourcing

Repackers and distributors

You are not buying vanilla. You are buying a spec you can repeat.

A repacker sells the same product twice: once to the shop, once to the shop after that. What kills a listing is not a bad lot, it is a good lot followed by a different one.

What decides in your trade

Consistency matters more than peak quality

Your customers notice change, not excellence. A supplier who sends an outstanding first shipment and an average second one costs you more than one who sends the same thing twice. Ask for the range a grade is guaranteed within, not the best figure ever measured on it.

The documentation has to travel further than you

Certificate of analysis, statement on origin, phytosanitary certificate: your own customers will ask for them, and some of them will ask in a format you do not control. Check that a certificate of analysis refers to the lot actually shipped, not to a sample from last season.

Moisture is the number that decides your margin

You buy by weight and you sell by weight, so water is bought and sold at the price of vanilla. A lot at 32% moisture and one at 25% do not give the same number of pods per kilo, whatever the price per kilo says.

Packaging determines your handling cost

Vacuum bags of 250 g and cartons of 25 kg do not cost the same per kilo, and the difference is not a margin decision, it is a labour one. Decide your retail format before asking for a price, not after.

What we supply for this use

Volumes

Repackers typically order between 100 and 500 kg per quarter, across two or three grades. That is the volume where tiered pricing starts to make a real difference, and where a single shipment can cover a full retail season.

Questions we get asked

Can I get the same specification twice?

Within a range, yes. Vanilla is an agricultural product: two lots of the same grade will differ. What can be committed to is a range for moisture and vanillin, and a certificate of analysis for each lot that lets you verify it before you resell.

Do you supply under my own brand?

Yes. Vacuum packing in retail formats with your label is possible from the first professional order. The cost per kilo rises as the format gets smaller, because handling does.

What documentation comes with a shipment?

Commercial invoice with the statement on origin, packing list with net and gross weights and lot references, phytosanitary certificate, certificate of analysis per lot, and the transport document. All of it transfers to your own customers.
